Styling Business Wear

I’ve been planning to make this post for soo long, but life just got in the way. Business wear is still trendy, so it’s not too late! Plus, the elements involved in business wear are so versatile that this could easily be a mini look-book for office looks. Think of this as an inspo board for making business pieces work with a casual wardrobe.

I have to admit, wearing actual pants is new to me. For the longest time, I was a denim kind of girl, and for the most part, I still am. But when I picked up my first pair of pants from Brandy Melville early this year, I realized just how comfy they are… and now I’m obsessed.

This pair is from Brandy Melville as well, and I’ve paired them with my a cute red bodysuit from Garage and my favorite denim jacket, hand-painted by my good friend from New Vintage (@ournewvintage on insta!)

To make this look a little more office appropriate, you could switch out the bodysuit and denim jacket combo for a solid dress shirt, tucked into the pants. I’d even recommend throwing a crew-neck sweater over the dress shirt and having the collar stick out for a layered effect. If you really want to make heads turn, pick up a blazer in a similar print and turn this look into a power suit!

My second favorite pair of trousers are these cute striped ones (oops, also from Brandy. I’ve got a type.)

They’re so casual and yet they fit so well. I’ve paired these with this Black Flag band tee that I picked up from a local vintage store, bunched at the waist to highlight my figure, and some cute booties from Le Chateau (they do also look amazing with Docs).

For accessories with this look, I picked up a silver chain from Forever 21 and a cute little scrunchie from Garage. Now that it’s colder out, I’d pair these pants with a fitted black turtleneck for an office-appropriate look and an aviator-style jacket for warmth.

This is one of my favourite business inspired pieces! I picked it up from Forever 21, and what I love about it is its versatility! You could pair it with a casual look like I did, or with other office-wear pieces for an easy and comfortable work look. Pair it with a pair of black slacks and a bodysuit for a stylish topper, or with a pair of jeans for a cute and casual school look.

This next blazer was a thrift find, but you can pick them up almost anywhere. My favourite way to style these is to wear them just like you would a cardigan. It’s an easy way to instantly make your casual outfit look much dressier and more put-together. I mean, it’s basically an unwritten rule that those who wear blazers casually have got their shit together – fake it till you make it!

I paired this blazer with a basic white sweater and my go-to leather leggings (not pictured). I threw on some heeled booties and a charm necklace for some subtle sparkle. This is definitely an outfit I would wear to the office (like, if I ever went to one), and it’s also an outfit I’d wear out to dinner and drinks – unbutton the blazer, and it’s a casual-chic dream.

What are your thoughts on the business-wear trend? Are you with it or are you waiting for it to fade out? Let me know!
